The Dangerous Seduction of Success

Deuteronomy 8:1-20; Luke 12:13-21

1.  Success can diminish our Remembrance of God.    vv.2,11,14,18,19

      a.  We can fail to appreciate the past blessings of God.  v.2
      b.  We can fail to acknowledge the present blessings to God.  vv.7-9
      Proverbs 3:6a
      c. We can fail to anticipate the future blessings of God.  v.18 

2.  Success can ruin our Relationship with God.    vv.2, 5, 14, 17
      Matthew 6:21
      a.  Success can numb our sense of dependency upon God.  Revelation 3:17
      b.  Success can nullify our spirit of delight in God.  Matthew 13:22

3.  Success can compete with our Responsibility to God.
      a.  Obedience to God is the responsibility of every redeemed person.  Deuteronomy 7:6-9
      b.  Obedience to God is the priority for all redeemed people.  1st Samuel 15:22-23

4.  Success can replace our Reliance upon God.
      Job 1:8-11; 13:15
      a.  Success can seduce us with a false security.  1st Samuel 5:17
      b.  Success can seduce us with a foolish sufficiency.  v.17
